Stab Pool

The Stab can be fished from both the left and the right banks. Left bank access is from Carnsalloch car park and walking downstream. The right bank can be reached from Holm farm and a involves a longer walk.  The Stab has a strong current entering the head of the pool, with a good push of current down the left bank.  The head of the pool is treed on the left bank and only fishable from the right bank. The pool then opens into a deep and slower body, fishable from both banks, before gliding into a shallowing tail, which leads to the run into our next pool, Denholms wood. The Stab fishes well for all species and holds a good head of resident brown trout and grayling. It is in good condition at virtually all water heights, apart from the very highest waters.
